What is new?

Meaning.
Some things may mean nothing to someone, but sometimes they carry a significant meaning for a person. Everyone has probably owned a thing that means a lot to him or her. When something was being created, did the maker thought about how much value the user would place on it? After many discu- ssions, we came to the conclusion that there might be a lot more to this topic. Where does a “meaning” to something come from? In the “meaning>new“ exhibition, we rediscover the value of “meaning” of selected products from the manufacturer, seller, and user’s perspective. These products are not necessarily the “latest” items found in showcases, as some have been around for 10 years. Nevertheless, these are things a user wants to use the moment he or she finds them in shops or catalogs. We be- lieve that this situation is the reason the manufacturer and ven- dor continue to see meaning in a product.
So, what kind of product has “meaning”? Braun clocks, the Max Bill-designed stool, and the many beautiful chairs by Charles Eames are a few examples. They are not only at the level of work that belongs in museums, but are still being produced, be- stowing dreams upon people with a “I want to use this” kind of charm and value to go with it. People will see these products as something that outshines the newest and latest models.
For us, the long lasting and standard products possess “meaning” and “reason” that new products lack. We want to present not only something new, but something meaningful to users and hope that through these long-cherished products and various exhibition methods, you will be inspired by their “meaning”.
