There is no doubt that tissue is a national consumption item (or the product consumed largely throughout the nation) in Japan. The annual consumption of tissue per person in Japan is as heavy as an average cat’s weight; 4.5Kg. Japan is the number one in the world leaving the second far behind (U.S.A-1.3Kg) for the consumption of tissue. There are various types of tissue products from daily use to premium types. Even luxury tissues are made for clearing nose. As it is implied in perfectly white, ne and soft textures of tissues, Japanese people are highly sensitive for cleanliness. Tissue, however, doesn’t help the interior aesthetic as it has association to something more domestic.
When you quietly place “STAND!” with tissue in it along the wall, it blends into the wall and no longer feels like a domestic item. Despite its strong association with domestic characteristics, tissue can become a tasteful daily item when it takes advantage of the wall. That is the beauty of such daily item and it lets us feel that the future of tissue is hopeful.
